Colonel Loammi Baldwin (January 10, 1744 – October 20, 1807) was a noted American engineer, politician, and a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. Baldwin is known as the Father of American Civil Engineering. Samuel Williams (1743-1817) was the son of Rev. Warham Williams (1699-1751) of Waltham, Mass. In 1761 he graduated from Harvard College and became minister of Bradford, Mass., until 1779 when he was chosen professor of philosophy at Harvard.
